CHOICE OF STUDENTS
The beneficiaries were selected with the help of their respective form teachers who knew them and their backgrounds and the school bursa too who most often observed them as the last to pay up their fees. From the list recommended by the form teachers and the school bursar, the principal conducted brief interview with the students respectively before inviting the parents/guardians for further inquiries. Many names came up in the list but not all of them qualified because of academic performances. The students were made to understand that poor academic performance will disqualify them from the scholarship scheme.
REACTION OF PARENTS TO THE SCHOLARSHIP
The parents of the beneficiaries themselves were full of thanks to the sponsors – the Odenigbo family. Many could not find words to express their feelings, they only wished everything good from God to the sponsoring family and prayed that God will continue to bless them and replenishes their purse three fold. Some yearned and are still yearning to meet the sponsors and thank them in person.
IMPACT ON SCHOOL AND STUDENTS
The scholarship scheme has not only benefited the indigent families and their wards but also the school at large. The students were made to understand they have to study hard to improve their result and that poor academic performance will disqualify them from the scholarship scheme. It has also presented a new image of the school as where not only those who can pay can study but where learning is available to all who has the interest. The good news has attracted some students to register with us as well.
